Compared with similar paperboard, coated paperboard can be used for more end-use applications. Various types of films provide a variety of key properties, such as humidity control, sealing characteristics, air tightness, light resistance, oxygen permeability, aroma barrier, heat resistance, peelability and grease resistance.
Therefore, if you want to package food, liquid or anything that needs sealed packaging and effective protection, including perishable food, our protective coated paperboard will be very suitable. The film is made of high-quality polymer and can be coated on one or both sides of the paperboard according to the end use.
Industry leading full range of packaging protection products
We use extrusion coating and extrusion coating technology and proprietary coating formula that can optimize the coating, so we only need a thin layer of polymer to achieve the required protection. The product can still be made of renewable raw materials to a large extent, usually 80-95%, but for plant-based film, even 100% renewable raw materials can be used. We offer all products for you to choose from.
So, how do you choose the right film? It depends on the type of product to be packaged and the level of protection and performance required. Stora Enso has many years of professional experience in the field of membrane and provides optimized solutions for all possible end uses.
PE film
PE (or polyethylene) is the most commonly used coating material. Polyolefin Coatings, such as low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) polymers, provide excellent moisture resistance. In addition to the traditional PE film, we also provide PE green film, which is made of renewable plant materials, so we can provide you with 100% renewable and recyclable protective packaging.
Typical end use: beverage cups and packaging for frozen food, ice cream and yogurt. HDPE coated paperboard is suitable for humidity sensitive dry food.
Biodegradable film "bio"
Biodegradable film is a customized polymer with moisture, oxygen and oil barrier and sealing properties. Our biodegradable film can be used as compost. However, biopolymer coated paperboard is also easy to recycle, which is usually the preferred waste option.
Biopolymers can be produced from natural crops or fossil materials. The key is that the coated paperboard will eventually decompose into carbon dioxide and humus. If you choose our biopolymer coated paperboard, the product is recyclable, or it can be collected into industrial compost together with other compostable waste.
